Happy holidays to all of you, and may the year ahead be the healthiest and happiest year of your life! In this newsletter I have some amazing and exciting information!

What have I been doing?

It has been many months since my last newsletter mostly because I have been focusing on my vitamin D project. As most of you know my book The Vitamin D Revolution has been available for about eight months now. In addition the at-home vitamin D test kits and my pharmaceutical quality vitamin D capsules are also now available.

I am happy to announce thatI have just released a DVD of my book! In this DVD I give a slide show lecture about vitamin D. The DVD is a little over an hour and it lets the viewer learn the salient points that I make in my book about vitamin D in a short time. In this new age of computers and digital media, I have come to realize a lot of people, especially young people, do not read books! They like to watch them or listen to them! It was for this reason that I prepared this DVD. The DVD is available for purchase here, and we will have it at special holiday prices for sale in my office until the end of the year.

I have been during many radio interviews and giving live lectures about vitamin D. Any suggestions or recommendations from you, my patients and friends, to help promote my vitamin D project would be most appreciated.

This is the actual title of an  article from a very recent edition of the prestigious medical journal Archives of Internal medicine.

This study reviewed the findings from a European prospective study into the prevention of chronic disease. There were over 23,000 participants in this study. The authors looked at the four major chronic diseases of modern society. These included type II diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and cancer.

They then looked at four lifestyle factors which included: never smoking, having a body mass index less than 30, exercising 3.5 hours per week or more, and adhering to healthy dietary principles. Their definition of healthy dietary principles was a high intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grain bread and specifically low meat consumption.

Alternative Medicine is Becoming Mainstream

iStock 000010393187XSmall Alternative Medicine is Becoming MainstreamWe all know that the popularity and importance of integrative medicine in the United States has been growing rapidly over the last 10 to 15 years.

Now a new study published in July 2009, from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, interviewed more than 23,000 adults and asked about their use of complementary treatments. Almost 40% of adults were found to be using some type of complementary medicine. In 2007 they had spent $33.9 billion on these practices. This accounted for over 11% of the public's total out-of-pocket health expenses. The last time that these numbers had been measured was in 1997 and at that time the out-of-pocket expenses were $27 billion.

Dr. Tracy Gaudet, the Executive Director of Duke Integrative Medicine which is part of the Duke University health system was quoted as saying "Whatever this amount of the population is doing is no longer a fringe. We have to figure out what they are looking for but they can't find in conventional medicine."

I think all my patients know what people are looking for in integrative medicine! We all want to care for the underlying imbalances that create chronic symptoms and chronic disease. None of us are looking for only symptomatic relief or symptomatic treatment.
