I am in the Vitamin D study, and in Oct 09 my vit D level was 44 ng/ml. I was taking less than 2000 IU of Vit D-3 prior to that test, and didn't spend a lot of time outside during the summer (i.e. I wasn't lying in the sun or spending hours at a time out there - just doing normal activities with my kids).

I took 5000 IU per day between October and April, but my vit D level decreased to 34. I recently had blood tests done which showed that my thyroid and everything else they tested is good.

I live in Northern Michigan, so I know that I am not going to get a lot of help from the sun. I am planning on increasing my supplements to 50,000/week, but I am wondering if you have any other recommendations. What other things could be bringing my levels down despite taking 35,000 IU/week? In an interview you mentioned that once a person is at 40-50 ng/ml you would recommend they stay at 2000 IU/day indefinitely. Based on these test results could it be that once I get to 50 I will need to take a higher dose every day for maintenance?

Thank you for your help.

SDickens on Lipid base or 'dry' capsules? https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/lipid-base-or-dry-capsules/#p175 Ask Dr. Soram about Vitamin D https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/lipid-base-or-dry-capsules/#p175 Dear Dr Soram,

Since reading your book I have taken the blood test and corrected my 25D levels from 18ng/L to 50ng/L using youre recommeded protocol. Not only has this eliminated my formerly persistent headaches, it also seems to be keeping my MS symptoms at bay. AMAZING!

I have just one question though: if Vitamin D is fat soluble and therefore best taken in a 'lipid base' e.g. olive oil, why are your D3 supplements in a 'dry' capsule form instead?

As I live in the UK and would like to avoid the crippling import charges of continuing to buy supplements from your site, I need to source a reliable D3 supplement within the UK. Which is better: lipid base D3 drops, or dry capsules?

Thanks very much for all your revolutionary work.

mshefi on Daily dose or 1 shot every 3 months? https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/daily-dose-or-1-shot-every-3-months/#p174 Ask Dr. Soram about Vitamin D https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/daily-dose-or-1-shot-every-3-months/#p174 My parents have recently had their Vit D levels tested. Mother: 10 ng/ml; father 4 ng/ml. THeir local doctor prescribed for each of them a phial of liquid Vit. D containing 100,000 IU (cholecalciferol) with a follow-up phial of the same amount in 3 months' time an intervening blood test and the intention of prescribing a maintenance dosage thereafter.

What are your thoughts on this method of boosting Vit. D(3) levels? What is the estimated absorption rate for people their age (80)? The average daily dose for 100,000 IU (assuming an equal and regular absorption) works out at 1,100 IU, which, bearing in mind their overall Vit. D deficit, seems inadequate according to your book "Vitamin D revolution".

They are both suffering unusual levels of tiredness. They live in Northern Europe where there is plenty of sun, and they are outside for at least an hour every day on average.

Has your book been translated into any other languages?

Finally, I notice that 100,000 / 90 days = 1111 ad infinitum. Treble ones in numerology mean energy (tho what type is not defined).

Why do you and other doctors prescribe Vitamin D-2 (ergocalciferol) when in your book,
"The Vitamin-D Revolution", you state that it is significantly less less effective
in raising human vitamin d levels?
You say that the over the counter D-3 works better is it that the only way you
can get 50,000iu is with the erocalciferol?

Dr. Soram Khalsa on Lab test results...question https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/lab-test-results-question/#p172 Ask Dr. Soram about Vitamin D https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/lab-test-results-question/#p172 Hi Kim,

That is NOT a vitamin D test ! That is a test of Parathyroid Hormone called PTH.Your PTH is in the normal range but that does not in any way tell you what your Vitamin D level is.

Be sure to ask for a 25-Hydroxy-Vitamin D level or you might be given the "old fashiion" blood test for Vitamin D which is not the best way to get a result.

I have your book " the VITAMIN D RVOLUTION". I am trying to interpret my lab test results relative to chart on page 50 of yor book.

PTH, INTACT (ICMA) and IONIZD CALCIUM

PARATHYROID HORMONE, INTACT

20 pg/mL REFERANCE RANGE 10-65

How do I convert these results to the chart on page 50?

Testing performed at QUEST LABORAORIES INC AUBURN HILLS, 4444 GIDDINGS ROAD, AUBURN HILLS, MI 48326

Is this a Vitamin D deficiency screen?

How do these results compare to your recommended levels of Vitamin D?

I am glad that you were able to hear my interview in the highlands of Scotland! I certainly know that there is not much sunshine there. Especially between the months of November and March even going out in the sun on a sunny day will give you no vitamin D because of the angle of the sun.

When the test results are sent back to you, there is no advice as to what dose to take. This is because the laws in the United States do not allow me to give people I've not met in person that information. However I very clearly in my book explain to the reader how I normalize my own patients' vitamin D levels in my office. Perhaps you can use this as a template with your doctor to normalize or optimize your own vitamin D levels.

In general the 1000 IU dose will not raise a person's vitamin D level very much. I do not know your age or your weight both of which affect your vitamin D dose. My normal recommendations for people who are otherwise health and have not had a blood test is to take 2000 IU per day. However if your levels are low that a much higher dose would be indicated.

Yes my test kits are available to you in the UK. Otherwise you could get a vitamin D blood test with your physician.

I send you best wishes.

Trevor Marshall has an interesting take on Vitamin D. I am currently looking at it but it sure does not agree with the large majority of articles published on Vitamin D

I am an online distributor of wellness products, and a strong believer in the necessity and health benefits of vitamin D. I am currently looking for a high-grade vitamin D product to market on my Web site.

My question is: Do you have an affiliate program for Complementrix?/Do you allow others to market it for a commission?

Thank you in advance for your time, and for your work. Laugh

Kind regards,

sorry to not get back to you sooner.
the thyroid and vitamin D levels are not directly connected. However your bio identical estrogen and progesterone can interact with your thyroid. It sounds like you certainly need a higher dose of vitamin D at least for a while.

I cannot tell from your comment whether you were already on thyroid before or just started it when your TSH when up to 4.0.

I hope this is somewhat helpful.

Dr. Soram Khalsa on No improvement on Ergocalciferol https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/no-improvement-on-ergocalciferol/#p159 Ask Dr. Soram about Vitamin D https://www.drsoram.com/forum/ask-dr-soram-vitamin-d/no-improvement-on-ergocalciferol/#p159 I must say I'm not familiar with those massive doses of vitamin D injections. We do not have the injectable vitamin D in the United States.

In my many years of normalizing my patient's vitamin D levels, have not found one patient whose level I could not get up with oral vitamin D. Perhaps the particular preparation your doctor is using is not labeled correctly?

Your level of less than 10 ng per milliliter is is certainly extremely low -- it is at rickets level.

I would ask your doctor to talk with you about giving you 50,000 units of vitamin D as a capsule one time per week for eight weeks and then re-measuring your levels. Ideally these capsules would be vitamin D3 but vitamin D2 would be acceptable. I would be interested in knowing what your blood levels were after eight weeks of this oral dose and would be delighted if you would e-mail me back or reply here on the forum as to what the results of this treatment protocol would be for you.

With best wishes,

Dr. Soram
